James Jean is preparing to release an elevated version of his one-eyed vigilante with Avant Arte. The Slingshot Saxum bronze sculpture features a child on one knee taking aim with his simple weapon.
Named after the latin word for stone, the new edition features a blue and gray flecked design with gold leaf ‘eyes’. A somewhat perverse embodiment of Hammurabi’s law of reciprocity understood simply as ‘An eye for an eye’, the child takes aim at the target with one of his own eyes. Slingshot also ties back into Jean’s recurring theme of finding one’s way with the maze motif incorporated into the sole of the character’s left shoe.
An edition of 50, the Slingshot Saxum bronze sculpture (6.69 x 6.3 x 6.69″) will be available shortly from Avant Arte for €7,500 ($9,096). Interested collectors should register for the drop. Each sculpture is hand-signed and numbered on the underside of the left foot. Slingshot Saxum follows the previously released Slingshot Aurum also from Avant Arte and the initial resin editions released for Jean’s Eternal Journey solo (2019) at Lotte Museum in Korea.
