We Art Doing draws inspiration from mythical tales of the sea for its upcoming Sleeping Beauty Mermaid resin art toy series. Awash in the beauty of the boundless sky and the nourishing ocean, the mermaid finds solace in a discarded tin can. As she floats to wherever the tide flows, her memories will endure the passage of time.
What matters in life is not what happens to you but what you remember and how you remember it.
—Gabriel Garcia Marquez. One Hundred Years of Solitude.
A follow-up to the Sleeping Beauty of Color series, the new Mermaid editions place the subtle, fragile beauty of the female characters in a skillfully realized ‘real world’ environment versus the abstract, surreal concept of the beauty arising from the artist’s palette. The juxtaposition of the mythical mermaid with the everyday, commonplace tin can locks in a tangible sense of wonder, grounded on earth yet unbounded by our limited perception. The Mermaid’s song gains strength through the impressive technical execution which seamlessly blends varied textures and finishes.
The Sleeping Beauty Mermaid resin art toy will debut in two editions: Snow and Coral. Snow showcases the elegant beauty of a mermaid with silver hair and silver scales against the shimmer of a pristine, almost-new tin can. Awash in orange hues, Coral pairs a rusted, weathered can and a radiant mermaid with fiery orange hair and semi-translucent tail.
Editions of 499 each, the Sleeping Beauty Mermaid Snow & Coral resin art toys (5.91 x 6.18 x 3.23″ high) will be available for pre-order on Friday (4.9) at 7 AM PDT from select retailers including myplasticheart and Strangecat Toys with a suggested retail of $139.
